My work examines ideas of appetite and consumerism, their effects on health and the environment, and speaks to the disconnect between cause and effect in society. I “package” these social and economic issues in highly decorative pieces that draw the viewer in and initially conceal their underlying messages. The flattened and weathered pieces of garbage which I collect have their own beauty. I need to repurpose them and impose some order on their chaos. My hope is that by interacting with the work both visually and in some cases physically the viewer is impelled to make connections between themselves and the issues addressed. I use printmaking extensively, reproducing these object anew in their transformed state. Their images recur in my work, a reminder of their permanence and a testimony to their futility.
