Katie Cercone was born 1984 in Santa Rosa, CA and is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, curator, yogi and adjunct faculty at the School of Visual Art. Cercone has shown her hip hop feminist performative video sculpture at the Brooklyn Museum, Bronx Museum, Whitney Museum, Momenta Art, C24 Gallery, Dodge Gallery and Vox Populi. She has published critical writing in ART PAPERS, Brooklyn Rail, Hysteria, Bitch Magazine, REVOLT Magazine, Utne Reader, N.Paradoxa and Public Art Dialogue. She has been twice nominated for the Rema Hort Mann Visual Arts Grant, and recently received with her collective Go! Push Pops a Brooklyn Arts Council Grant and the Culture Push Fellowship for Utopian Practice. Her work has been featured in Slutist, ART 21 Magazine, Hyperallergic, The Wild Magazine, NY Observer, Culture Crux, Paper Magazine, Art Fag City, Washington Post, Art Net TV, Bushwick Daily, Societe Perrier, BronxNet TV, Abiola TV and Calyx Journal among others. Cercone has curated shows for Momenta Art, Sensei Gallery, Cue Art Foundation and NurtureArt. She is co-leader of the queer, transnational feminist collective Go! Push Pops and is a two time scholarship recipient of The Omega Institute’s Women & Power initiative. Cercone was recently announced a 2015 National Endowment for the Arts Fellow for the U.S.-Japan Exchange Program.
