A recent addition to the New York City contemporary and creative music scene, Ben Thomas is a double bassist that has been described as "full sounding... imaginative bass playing." Ben earned two degrees from the Eastman School of Music, in Jazz Bass and Contemporary Media. At Eastman, he enjoyed playing in new music ensembles led by Dave Rivello and Brad Lubman, as well serving on the board for the student run new music group Ossia. Always learning, Ben has attended the School for Improvised Music for three sessions, as well as the Banff Creative Music Workshop in 2011. Ben released Endless Mountain Region, his first album of original improvised music, in 2012 with saxophonist Tony Malaby and drummer Aaron Staebell. From 2011-12 Ben was adjunct professor of double bass at SUNY Oswego and currently has his own studio in Brooklyn where Ben resides.
