Chia-Ying Kao is a Taiwanese artist based in New York City since 2004. She received her MFA degree in Dance from Sarah Lawrence College in 2012. Chia-Ying seeks to experiment with the blending of Eastern and Western dance forms, fine tune her aesthetic vision and concepts, and expand her understanding of the cultural and artistic impulses driving the evolution of modern dance worldwide.
Her work has been presented at Triskelion Arts, Center for Performance Research, Dixon Place, Chen Dance Center, Duke University, Tribeca Film Festival, Manhattan's Union Square for a dance installation, Roulette NYC, Villa Victoria Center for the Arts in Boston and Hualien Cultural Arts in Taiwan.
Chia-Ying has collaborated with important choreographers, dancers, and institutions such as Sara Rudner, Yvonne Rainer, Twyla Tharp, Bill T. Jones, Hou Ying, Topaz Arts, Chinese Theatre Works, and Earl Mosley Diversity of Dance, among others.
In the past years, She has been a guest artist teaching modern dance, composition and improvisation at the American Dance Festival, Sarah Lawrence College, National Taiwan University of Arts, University of Taipei, Tainan University of Technology College of Arts, Duke University, Bard High School Early College, Open Arts Program of Tisch, New York University and UCLA, Department of World Arts & Cultures/Dance and Broward College - Visual and Performing Arts Department.
