Lisa Russell is an Emmy-award winning documentary filmmaker whose background in international development and humanitarian work helps draw inspiration for her films about the health and well-being of our global society. Since completing her Masters in Public Health degree from Boston University in 1997, Lisa has been working overseas in the fields of refugees/displaced persons in the Balkans, global women?s health, and HIV/AIDS in Africa.

While much of Lisa's work has been broadcast on public television, she often integrates her films into advocacy campaigns with UN and international agencies that focus on awareness building, fundraising and legislative advocacy. Lisa also collaborates with other artists in her global health advocacy. In 2005, Lisa collaborated with Grammy-nominated artist Zap Mama on The WOMAN Tour, a 3-week initiative of film screenings and musical performances to raise awareness of global women's health. She is currently partnering with Grammy winning singer, Maya Azucena on, an interactive website and online community that unites artists and activists on maternal health.
