Laura Brenneman was raised by musician parents in San Diego, California. She grew up listening to show tunes, English choral music, and Abba. After studying music at UCLA, she moved to New York City and was accepted into the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop. Since then she has musical directed for Theatreworks!USA and has been a featured composer in the Raw Impressions Musical Marathon. She is also active as a teaching artist, with recent in-school residencies at Packer Collegiate Institute, the Berkeley Carroll School, and the Avenues World School. Laura performs her original songs at many reputable establishments in NYC, among them the Sidewalk Café, Rockwood Music Hall, and the Living Room. She regularly performs as part of the Bushwick Book Club, and is the resident musical director of the neo-vaudevillian performance troupe, The Fabulists. In January 2013 she worked with legendary director Martha Clarke on a workshop reading of The Threepenny Opera (Atlantic Theatre Company, NYC), serving as arranger and multi-instrumentalist. She was recently commissioned by the Women’s Project to write a new musical.
