Oscar Lopez is a Brooklyn-based theatre director and freelance writer. Originally from Mexico, Oscar moved with his family to Australia in 2000.
Graduating from the University of Melbourne in 2011 with a BA (Honors) in Creative Writing and Theater, Oscar was awarded the Keith Macartney Scholarship for the Arts, the Louise Homfrey Award for Directing and the Hannah Barry Memorial Award to take his show 'Love' to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2011.
Last year, Oscar relocated to New York to undergo an internship with Tectonic Theater Project. This year Oscar was the Assistant Director for the Lower East Side Festival of the Arts at Theatre For the New City.
Oscar’s writings have been featured in Los Hijos de la Malinche, LuxuriousPROTOTYPE, I Ate The Foodie, New York Magazine (nymag.com) and Posture Magazine. Oscar regularly blogs about his experiences in New York and is particularly interested in art, fashion, lifestyle and food.
Oscar is the recipient of the 2012 Ian Potter Cultural Trust Travel Fund and the 2013 Australian Arts Council Arts Start Grant.
