Calo Rios began his career in the early 70's as an assistant to pop artist Peter Max.
He worked on illustration and packaging projects as well as assisting Max in his fine art productions. Calo then returned to Puerto Rico and began a career as an art director at several multinational advertising agencies including Young & Ribicam where he worked on blue chip accounts including Eastern Airlines, Colgate=Palmolive, General Foods, American Home Foods, Acura, Frito-Lays, KFC and Whitehall Labs.

In 1991 Calo returned to his native New York to finish a BFA in graphic Design he had started during his Peter Max days. From 1991 to 1994, while studying at the School of Visual Arts, he also worked on toy packaging at Howard Temner Design. He created comps and final art for Marvel action figures including Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, X-Men and Ghost Rider.

In 1994 Calo became the director of creative services at GT Interactive Software, the video game publisher who brought us DOOM and QUAKE. A year latter Calo opened Marching Ants USA providing creative services for some of the biggest names in the video game industry including Disney Interactive, Warner Bros. Tiny Toons, Activision, 2K Games / Take-Two Interactive and Tilting Point.

In 2014 Calo returns to his roots in fine art creating works of on canvas and paper.
