Robin J. Hayes, PhD is the director, writer and producer of BLACK AND CUBA, a documentary that follows a diverse group of Ivy League students who band together and adventure to Cuba. An East Flatbush native, Hayes is currently Assistant Professor of Non-Profit Management, Media Studies and International Affairs at The New School and Principal Organizer of Progressive Pupil, an educational non-profit that "makes Black studies for everybody." She was the first person at Yale to earn a combined PhD in African American Studies and Political Science. She directed the documentary short Beautiful Me(s), which was received enthusiastically at film festival and campus audiences throughout the US, Canada and in Cannes. The National Endowment for the Humanities and the Ford Foundation have funded her work.
