Maria Pittaway Vega, professionally known as Sky Vega, is an award winning multidisciplinary artist. She has garnered accolades across a variety of endeavors from special effects makeup and music to fine and commercial arts.
With an artistic education that spans the globe, she has studied and worked in South Africa, Greece and the United States; she has taken this wealth of knowledge and currently runs Pittaway Art, a creative services company based out of New York.
In the visual arts arena, Sky displayed her creative leanings from the earliest age, as the product of an artistic family and has exhibited her works informally since age 16. The Pensioners Society of Greece hosted her first solo painting show at age of 19. In 2007 The School Of Visual Arts featured her work with a two-week exhibition and in 2015 Sky was named the winner of the BRIC Arts Media Viewers Choice Award, for her sculptural prosthetic work “Geode.” Educated at the South African School of Art, Dance, Drama and Music, where she studied art on an artistic scholarship, Sky later attended college for Computer Graphic Animation & Multi-Media at A.K.T.O. School of Art & Design in Athens. Her artistic output currently ranges from illustrating children’s books and interior design work, to painting murals and producing artisanal products or fine art for her online gift shop.
In the film industry, Sky is an award nominated Special Effects Makeup Artist and creative costume provider. She studied Special FX Makeup at the School of Visual Arts and Sky fine-tuned her Special Effects Makeup abilities with lab skills at the Makeup Designory in New York. She has worked as the Department Head on many feature films, shorts, music videos and TV shows. She is credited with producing molds and life casting for The Hobbit (An Unexpected Journey) and has worked for a slew of celebrities from Dr. Oz to“Weird Al” Yankovic. Sky’s work has been seen in many publications with creative costuming for singer P!nk’s red carpet appearances at the Bette Midler annual Hulaween ball and Heidi Klum's party to media coverage of various Issabella Rossalini productions for Green Porno and Animals Distract Me.
In entertainment, she took classical guitar lessons at the Daphne School of Music in Greece and vocal coaching under the auspices of her music development deal. She went on to tour independently as a published musician having performed on the same bill as The Black Eyed Peas, Cee-Lo Green, White Lion and Ritchie Blackmore, among others, at over 2000 venues and festivals world-wide, from the European Rock Festival at Lekavitos stadium in Greece and the Goombay Festival in Miami, to headlining at the Hard Rock Cafe in Germany and gracing the marquee of one of Times Squares attractions, "Times Scare." Her music is play-listed on AIR 104.4 FM, an affiliate of the BBC & other EU radio stations, Urban Latino Radio, Loutraki FM and Jango Radio among several others radio outlets. Her music videos are broadcast on over 76 television stations, reaching London, Canada, South Africa and Across the USA and she has been profiled in multiple publications. Sky Vega's music is available at most digital providers.
In addition to her entrepreneurial endeavors, Sky occasionally offers a variety of artistic educational workshops and retails her creative media both locally and online.
