Maya Meissner was born in the small town of Fairfax, California nestled in the hills just 20 minutes North of The Golden Gate Bridge. Her first exposure to photography was experimenting with her dad’s 35 mm Minolta and flipping through The Family of Man Catalog and an Andy Goldsworthy anthology; the two photo books her parents owned. Maya started passionately pursuing photography in high school, spending many hours in the darkroom. She then received a BFA in Photography from The School Of Visual Arts and has since stayed in NYC. Maya continues to make work and exhibit in galleries around Brooklyn. By day she works as a freelance photographer and photography assistant.
