I am the founder and executive director of The Luminal Theater. The Luminal provides fully curated film and media screening services to the international film community with an emphasis on exhibiting cinema of the African diaspora.
Centered in Brooklyn, NY, our primary mission is to make these films and their filmmakers accessible beyond film festivals and web-based services as cinema is best utilized as a shared audience experience.
From July-September 2015, The Luminal operated out of a pop-up space in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, providing daily screenings of independent films and media such as Darius Clark Monroe’s award-winning “Evolution of a Criminal,” multimedia artist Shani Peters’ “Re:Program,” and the film classic “Black Orpheus,” to name a few of many exceptional and atypical film fare exhibited. In 2016 we focused on filmmaker-community establishment with our 'Beyond The Cut' interview series on Bed-Stuy film creatives, and in 2017 began our outdoor screening series, the Cinema Garden Party.
The search for a permanent Central Brooklyn based home for the theater is currently underway.
I am also the co-founder of the Caribbean Film Series at BAMcinematek, which I produce in conjunction with the Caribbean Film Academy, and previously co-founded and directed the New Voices In Black Cinema Festival (also at BAMcinematek).
