Jamie Diamond is a visual artist based in Brooklyn, NY. She received her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and is currently a lecturer and the coordinator of the Undergraduate Photography Department at the University of Pennsylvania.
Diamond works principally with photography, performance and video. Her photographs explore the role of performance and artificiality within the ostensible realism of the medium. Through collaborations with strangers, mimes, professional actors and untrained outsider artists, she uses recognizable photographic genres and role-play to make objects, construct events, and forge artificial histories and relationships for the camera, exploring the inherent fictions and complex perspectives of photography, and the conflation between the documentary and constructed tableaux genres.
