Reshmi Nair is an Indian classical dancer, performer, teacher and choreographer. She started her training in Bharatanatyam at the age of 4 at Noopura Institute of Indian Classical Dance, New York. After graduating from high school, she traveled to India where she trained in Mohiniyattam at KeralaKalamandalam. She then joined Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai- the highly traditional and prestigious school of Bharatanatyam, where she graduated after an intensive 4 year diploma course.
Underlying her passion for dance was her love for the North Indian classical art form, Kathak. Reshmi enrolled at the Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography founded by Dr. Maya Rao. After graduating, she continued on at Natya as a lecturer in the field of dance and dance aesthetics as well as a faculty member, training both children and adults in Kathak. Reshmi was also a principle dancer of STEM Dance Kampni, founded by Madhu Nataraj.
Reshmi has given Kathak solo performances in the United States as well as in Japan, Korea, India and Canada. Her degree in Choreography as well as her training at Kalakshetra and the Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography rounds out her accomplishments, giving her the advantage to successfully create performances that implement the union of both western and eastern art forms together. 'Reshmi Dance Movement' was created with the vision to promote Indian Classical Arts in the US.
