ara Samoiloff was born in New England surrounded by art, antiques and beautiful textiles. Her great-grandfather well known Boston Painter Herman Dudley Murphy, who was married to painter Caroline Bowles Murphy and then Nellie Littlehale Murphy,both sets of grandparents and her father were involved in the arts as well. Sara was constantly inspired and encouraged, drawing, painting, sewing from a very young age. At 7 she began taking classes at the Museam of Fine Arts in Boston. She studied painting with several professors from the Chicago Art Institute throughout high school.
While attending a summer program at Rhode Island School of Design in high school Sara understood she would become an artist and went on to receive a BFA from R.I.S.D. Sara’s love of fashion developed into a successful business designing and producing sterling jewelry which was sold in high end shops and galleries here and abroad.
After marrying and having 2 daughters, she spent five years as the Design Director for Karl Lagerfeld’s jewelry collection, simultainously holding the same position at Givenchy for three years.
In the 90’s sara opened a shop in NYC where she created a brand consisting of one of a kind jewelry, accessories and clothing that became a destination for fashion insiders and celebrities. Her clients included Lenny Kravitz, Madonna and Joan Jett. She collaborated on projects with prominent fashion designers like Diane Von Furstenberg and John Bartlett.
After eight years in her East Village shop she decided to focus full time on painting and raising her young girls in New England. When her children went off to college she returned to NYC once again and has designed her impressive Bushwick studio to be a comfortable and inspiring refuge for her and her guests. Sara collaborates with clients to design and produce garments, jewelry and accessories, she continues to paint and make larger sculptural work as well.
