Robert Franca studied art at SVA, the NY Studio School and at Skowhegan ME. He was born in Brooklyn in 1951 and raised in a predominantly Irish and Italian working class neighborhood.
In 1982 he was awarded a Fulbright to study painting in Italy for a year. Residing in Florence and traveling throughout Italy, Architecture became an overiding interest and developed as an important theme in his work.
He has held various teaching positions over the years, worked for Muralist Richard Haas, had his own mural painting business and is a member of the United Scenic Artists union where he has worked on TV, movies and theatre productions.
He has recently completed residencies at Yaddo and the Obras Foundation in Portugal. At his recent show last Spring at the Valentine gallery in Bushwick he exhibited sculptures and paintings featuring architectural form.
He currently resides and works in Brooklyn and focuses on painting and sculpture with realistic and sometimes surrealistic results .
