I am a Jamaican-born multidisciplinary artist who specializes in the convergence of theatre and fashion as a new immersive medium of storytelling. I am constantly engaged with interpreting the resistance of marginalized groups (particularly POCs) – amidst systemic oppression, commodification, and the dilution of their histories. Much of this resistance is rooted in dress. Therefore, my work aims to challenge the frivolity of fashion by reintroducing the otherwise mundane as art to frame these experiences, expand the narrative, and engage with the community by using the familiar to encourage a retrospective look and a conjugation of the future. I achieve this by deconstructing preloved garments, along with deadstock fabric to recreate visual stories that reinforce the significance of preservation, resilience, and reinvention.
