Shannon J. Effinger is Brooklyn Arts Council’s Grant Writer and she has worked with arts non-profit organizations in that capacity for a number of years. Effinger's jazz writing has highlighted many renowned music festivals, both in the U.S. and abroad—South Africa, Panama & Haiti, among other countries. Since 2008, Shannon’s writing has appeared in publications such as DownBeat, NPR Jazz, EBONY, JazzTimes, Caribbean Beat, The Revivalist (OkayPlayer.com), and Time Out New York, among others.

Shannon has also written numerous profiles and conducted several interviews with some of today's prominent figures: Quincy Jones, Whoopi Goldberg, legendary jazz artists McCoy Tyner, Randy Weston, Hugh Masekela, modern jazz musicians Marc Cary, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, Esperanza Spalding and Terence Blanchard, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Jennifer Pryor (widow of Richard Pryor), and many more.
