Honoree: Michael Pressman

Michael Pressman is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Manhattan and graduated from the High School of Music and Art.  He studied theater at Carnegie Mellon University, and then film at California Institute of the Arts, where he began his career in film and television almost thirty years ago.  

At the early age of 26, he directed the Bad News Bears in Breaking Training. Since then, he has directed nine feature films, including Doctor Detroit, starring Dan Aykroyd, To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Claire Danes, Some Kind of Hero, starring  Richard Pryor, Those Lips Those Eyes, starring Frank Langella and Thomas Hulce, and the wildly successful Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - The Secret of the Ooze. He directed, wrote, and acted in his most recent film, Frankie and Johnny Are Married.

He is a two-time Emmy Winner as Executive Producer/Director of the acclaimed television series, Picket Fences, and he was nominated for a Directors Guild Award for his direction of the television pilot of Chicago Hope. He also directed the pilot to The Guardian, and was the Executive Producer for the first season of the series.  

Eleven years ago, he returned to New York and moved to Brooklyn, and for the last decade he has been working in theater and television in New York. He most recently directed the successful Broadway revival of Come Back Little Sheba starring S. Epatha Merkerson. Over the years he has directed many terrific television shows, including Damages, The Practice, Boston Legal, Weeds, In Treatment, and Law and Order. His most recent television work has been directing episodes of Law and Order SVU, Blue Bloods, Justified, and Elementary.  

Michael Pressman resides in Brooklyn, and it’s his favorite place to live ever.
