Local Arts Support
Designed with nonprofit organizations and artist-nonprofit partnerships in mind, Local Arts Support helps develop high-quality local arts projects and programs that focus on community engagement.
About this Grant
In 2023, Local Arts Support distributed $255,000 to 56 projects across the borough.
Funded by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), this money is for nonprofit organizations and artist-nonprofit partnerships developing high-quality local arts projects and programs that focus on community engagement. The best proposals identify their community, demonstrate engagement with that community, and thoughtfully describe anticipated outcomes.

Written, directed, and choreographed by Katherine Maxwell, a sigh of origin is a dance movie featuring nine dancers representing a single individual and the various lives lost and found throughout a lifetime: processes of shedding and transforming. The performance conveys how change in a person over a lifetime affects how one relates to the world around them. The cast of dancers is made up of men, women, and non-binary individuals from a range of cultural backgrounds, representing how a person evolves as an effect of pivotal moments.
Parachute Literary Arts
Local Arts Support | Literary Arts | 2022
Parachute Literary Arts presented “My New York City,” a six-session poetry workshop by poet SM Gray, in which participants explored, reflected, and wrote about their Brooklyn neighborhoods through memory, observation, and personal stories. Participants explored their Brooklyn neighborhoods and draw out hidden or lesser seen stories. What does it mean to really "know" a neighborhood, city, or street? What do you know that others don't?
