Healing Sounds and the Body: Aeilushi Mistry

Bharatanatyam is the oldest classical dance heritage of India, where dance expresses emotions in rhythm and movement. The healing elements of Bharatanatyam are rooted in its name: Bha meaning emotion (Bhava), Ra meaning music (Raaga), Ta meaning rhythm (Taal) and Natyam meaning dance. Traditionally, Hindu temples are adorned with sculptures of Lord Shiva in Bharatanatyam dance poses. The movements and sounds of this dance represent the sound of movement as daily prayer. Aeilushi Mistry’s movements and sounds expressed in this Sonic Clinic offer healing through body, prayer, and ritual. Click on the Artist’s Statement to learn more about this tradition.
