BAC Wellness Installation at The Gregory Jackson Center

Brooklyn Arts Council celebrates Wellness on July 30 from 1pm – 5pm at The Gregory Jackson Center for Brownsville!

Interactive healing sculptures, live health talks, and a wellness workshops are all part of this free event. Come join us for a night of healing, and discover more about healing traditions at the BAC Sonic Clinic pop-up digital art exhibition, which will feature digital artwork by David Gumbs and music performed by musicians from all across New York City. The exhibition will run from July 30 - August 5.

JULY 30: SCHEDULE

1 PM – 5:00 PM: Interactive Healing Spaces - Head Space Sculptures
These personal healing headscapes sculptures propose realms of imagination and escape. They are for individuals from the community to enter into unique immersive environments that transform, calm and rejuvenate. There is no one size fits all solution to a healing practice. The personal headscapes aim to reinforce a sense of choice in choosing a journey through different transformational environments.

2:30 PM – 3:30 PM: Community Illustration & Discussion with Destiny Jacobs
A live illustration of an audience-authored healing power journey kicks off a community conversation about creative wellness in Brownsville, featuring artists, organizational leaders, and public health workers. Illustrator: Destiny Jacobs

4:00 PM – 4:45 PM: Wellness Workshop with Steven Rousseau

Steven Rousseau of Brownstone Wellness will lead us through a wellness workshop rooted in meditation practices.

BAC Wellness Studio builds on our mission of empowering artists with a focus on what artists need to be healthy and how artists contribute to the holistic thriving of Brooklyn communities; the well-being of Brooklyn’s artists is fundamental to the prosperity and spirit of Brooklyn.

BAC Wellness Studio is a hybrid program launched in 2021 - 2022 that provides space for the well-being of Brooklyn’s creative community. The Wellness Studio launched with two programs: BAC Neighborhood Clinic Healing Installations and BAC Sonic Clinic.

BAC Sonic Clinic is a cross-cultural musical healing experience for our online and on-site visitors. BAC Sonic Clinic explores the healing traditions of music and sounds from from immigrant populations throughout Brooklyn. Each musical composition is accompanied by David Gumbs to move you through each healing soundscape. Musical compositions by Samir Langus; Aeilushi Mistry; Vong Pak & Junghee Oh; Zane Rodulfo; and Martin Vejarano.
