Circle 'Round Brooklyn 2, a participatory dance event, held from 3 - 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, at Fort Greene Park, featured performances by soloists and troupes, whose traditional dance forms relate to shapes such as the circle and line. The audience had an opportunity to learn dances suitable for all ages. They learned hula, Haitian rara, African American juba and experienced Korean poongmul and Brazilian capoeira. Circle and line dances bring people together. Many cultures throughout the world retain circle dance traditions and here in Brooklyn still join together in the round at weddings and festivals as dancers reaffirm community through longstanding forms such as African American juba and Haitian rara.
