Dance in the Neighborhood: Bay Ridge by Night

This tour highlights cultural communities and social life along 5th Avenue through the neighborhood's dance traditions.

Dance and eat your way through Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Part of Folk Feet on Fifth, this tour highlights cultural communities and social life along 5th Avenue through the neighborhood's dance traditions. Learn and watch social dances with dance masters at neighborhood places, sample food traditional to local cultural communities, and enjoy a full meal at a popular restaurant at the conclusion of the tour. Bay Ridge by Night includes the following:

  • Irish dance demo and intro lesson with Joe Dwyer, and traditional drink/food samples at the historic Ballybunion Pub with owner John Bennet.

  • Lebanese/Palestinian debke line dance class with Sheren Attal and Jad Lebbos, Egyptian spinning dance (tannoura) demonstration by Yasser Darwish, and Turkish coffee at Turqua Turkish restaurant.

  • Greek dance with Chrisafo Madimenos and an overview of the Greek community through the Holy Cross Church Greek Orthodox Church with Father Gerasimos.

  • Historical commentary and preview of Scandinavian East Coast Museum at Our Savior's Church with Victoria Hofmo.

  • Full dinner and live Arab music with two local Lebanese singers, oriental dance (belly dance) and debke at Le Sajj Lebanese restaurant. Meal includes 13 lebanese mezzes, mixed grill kebab (shish kebab, chicken kebab, kefte kebab), coffee, dessert. Sample a shisha! (Drinks, additional shisha, and tip not included).
