A story session for the whole family, featuring Lenape Indian tales from the Red Storm Drum and Dance Troupe and stories from Trinidad told by well-versed traditional artist Euston James. Presented by BAC in cooperation with Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park.
ARTIST BIOS
Euston James, a native of Trinidad, has lived in Brooklyn since 1972. In the U.S. he has participated in West Indian carnival traditions as a dancer of calypso and limbo and as a fire-eater. His specialty is limbo, made popular in the United States during the 1960s but traditionally performed at wakes in Trinidad.
Red Storm Drum and Dance Troupe members are from many different Native American heritages. They are historians, drummers, dancers, flute players, storytellers, and educators of the Native American Culture. They work in schools, public venues, and pow-wows, where they invite the audience to participate in their stories. Brooklyn is known as the last Indian stronghold in NYC, and is known particularly for the Mohawk iron workers.
