It’s 1926, and puppeteers Yosl Cutler and Zuni Maud are running a Yiddish theatre out of an old sweatshop off Second Ave. Modicut is a rip-roaring success, selling out nine shows a week - when they’re suddenly served an eviction notice. Ever the provocateurs, they decide to represent themselves in court. Or rather, represent themselves with their puppets. This is the story of that puppet trial. A riotous spectacle, THE TRIAL OF MODICUT is a diasporic Yiddish theatre show buzzing with larger-than-life puppetry, drag, clown, live music, and chutzpah!
