Brooklyn Arts Council's 50th Anniversary Celebration

Brooklyn Art Lovers Celebrate BAC's 50 Years of Giving Life to the Arts at Alive with Art

On the evening of May 3rd, 2016, over 300 art lovers, artists, and guests celebrated BAC's 50th anniversary of supporting the arts and artists in Brooklyn at Alive with Art: BAC's 50th Anniversary Ceremony & Dinner and After Party.

BAC was thrilled to honor Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks and GRAMMY Award-winning musician Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons for their contributions to Brooklyn's cultural landscape and creative economy and to have Niegel Smith, Artistic Director of The Flea Theater, and Daniel Glass, President and Founder of Glassnote Records, speak to their accomplishments. The audience was also treated to special performances by Batala NYC, Kevin Garrett, The Bones of J.R. Jones, and Rachel Brown. It was truly an evening to remember.

We're delighted to share photographer Etienne Frossard's photos of the evening and the video above, 50 Years of Brooklyn Arts Council, which debuted at the Alive with Art Ceremony & Dinner. Please take a moment to watch and witness how BAC's service has shaped the arts in Brooklyn. BAC is especially grateful for the dedication of the BAC 50th Anniversary video team: Malick Cisse, Robyn-Alain Feldman, Ibrahim Maqbool, Dan Erickson, Morgan Lindsey Tachco, and Diego Foronda.

We'd also like to extend a very special thanks to our event partner, Communion Music, and to BAC Grantee Tom Fruin, whose BAC-funded Watertower sculpture was featured on all event materials courtesy of Robert Banat Photography.

If you missed the event, there's still time to support BAC and to ensure that Brooklyn artists access the financial support, professional development, and technical assistance they need to hone their crafts and bring their work to the public.

Thank you, again! We look forward to another 50 years.

Alive with Art is made possible through the support of our sponsors: Alloy Development, Ellen Gottlieb & Jean Austin at Brooklyn Bridge Realty, Brownstoner, Communion Presents, ConEdison, Investors Bank, and TD Bank, and with the support of BAC Board Members Peter Ashkenasy and Dr. Tom F. Schutte.
